Many thanks to the fabulous volunteers who have worked tirelessly this year to make Spring Fling 2010 – Casino Royale a raging success!!  Together we raised more than $400,000 for our schools!  The talent and generosity of the Piedmont community is astounding and we are fortunate to live in a community where we value a high-quality public education and we put our time, money and hearts into making it the best it can be.

In particular, I would like to thank the Spring Fling Co-Chairs of each of the elementary schools—Kirsten Merit and Susan Miller-Davis at Beach; Nicole Derr and Helen Young at Havens; and Sally Aldridge and Ereca Miller-Shrewsberry at Wildwood.  They are an amazing group of talented and motivated women who each played an instrumental role in making Spring Fling 2010—Casino Royale such a success.

Additionally, I’d like to thank our Secret Agents and Bond Girls, Donations Solicitors, Photo Coordinators, Class Donations Coordinators, Data Entry Specialists and Parent Party Coordinators. This year our principals, teachers and parents club presidents played an instrumental role in our success, as did the PMS and PHS communities.  Thank you, Piedmont!

Our work is nearly done.  We are in the process of tying-up loose ends and will be delivering auction items this week.

This year, the goal of the Spring Fling Fund-an-Item drive is to bring vital state-of-the-art technology to our elementary school classrooms to enhance teaching and learning. These tools give teachers the opportunity to revolutionize the way they prepare and deliver materials, augment the way our children learn, and help keep Piedmont students competitive with other schools around the country.

This year’s Spring Fling Fund-an-Item contributions will underwrite the installation of:

LCD Projectors ($1,300+ each)

Teachers can utilize LCD projectors to easily prepare lessons in advance on their laptop, integrating graphics and web content as needed, to deliver on a large screen that can be viewed by the class.

Document Cameras ($650+ each)

Document cameras allow teachers to project physical objects onto a large screen – particularly useful for hands-on lessons like science experiments with strong visual components.

Smart Boards ($1,300+ each)

The Smart Board technology provides a wholly interactive experience – like a large computer screen which teachers and students can edit and manipulate using their finger as a mouse.  As a class or in groups, teachers and students can interact with content, visit websites, and mark up text.

Here’s the latest Spring Fling intelligence for this week:

• ONLINE AUCTION LIVE UNTIL 4/28 – 50+ ITEMS ADDED!

The online auction is live and will be closing on April 28 at 5pm.  Due to the overwhelming response and generosity of our donors, this week we have moved an additional 50+ items into the online auction!  To bid/pre-bid on a wide variety of items, services, parent parties and teacher donations, press “enter auction website” to the right

• AUCTION CATALOG AVAILABLE THIS WEEK

The auction catalogs are available later this week, and will be delivered directly to ticket holders.  Extra copies will be available at each of the elementary school offices and at Mulberrys.  There will not be extra copies provided at the event, so please bring yours along if you wish.  We are actively encouraging proxy bidding and absentee bids – please reference the form in the catalog, or you ask a friend who is going to the event to bid for you

• PARENT PARTIES – GET ‘EM WHILE THEY’RE HOT!

Our Parent Parties help the Spring Fling fun continue throughout the year and they are selling fast!   Now is the time to get online and book your spot for one or more of your favorites.  Don’t despair if one of the parties you want to attend has already sold out online – we will have additional spots for most sign-up parties at the Spring Fling Cocktail/Silent Auction, so plan to arrive early to snap them up!

• ORGANIZE YOUR BIDDING GROUP NOW!

We also have five parent parties that are being sold as a whole party to the highest bidder, with pre-bidding available online and final bidding to take place at the auction.  Visit the auction website  to check out party details.  A great way to win these unique experiences is to pull your friends together into a “bidding group” (you only need one representative to bid online and/or at the auction), so start organizing now!

Sign up for parties!

We are selling slots to a record 30+ parent- and teacher-hosted parties this year, scheduled between now and March 2011 with something to suit every taste, every family and every budget.  Thanks to fabulous hosts throughout our community, these parties ensure that Spring Fling isn’t just one night but a year-round opportunity for socializing, community-building and school-fundraising.  Our sign-up parties this year range from intimate affairs (Jam-Making for 8 people) to blow-outs (80s Prom Party for 250 people) and everything in between.  We have old favorites back again this year, like Oktoberfest and the Green Party, and new traditions in the making, including a Scrabble Fest.  We have separate mountain biking and hiking adventures for men and women, book readings with local celebrities Kelly Corrigan and Christine Carter to awaken the mind and the soul, amazing foodie events like an Arabian Nights dinner and a Chocolate Tasting, and kid-inclusive family parties like the Swing Back to School Family Dance Party and the Mother-Daughter High Tea.  And lots, lots more.

Like the Spring Fling tickets, we expect online slots for these parties to go quickly, so hop online as soon as you can to reserve your spot.
