According to the PUSD website, there are about 2,600 students in the system. So, one way to encourage people to donate is to point out that $90,000 = $35 per student. If you are wavering on whether to donate, ask yourself this: how much will you spend on your kids that day if they are not in school? If your kids are going to be in a Rec Dept program, with a babysitter, or if you'll be taking them somewhere (especially if you take them shopping), the odds are you will be spending more than the cost of them being in school! $35 for a 6.5 hour school day is less than $5.50 per hour. Of course, not everyone will donate, so donors should do more than $35 per kid if they can. Also, and most importantly, consider that restoring the school day helps support our teachers and of course has educational benefits for our kids.
